Paul Liotsakis – Green Cars Writer
I have been passionate about cars and the environment ever since I was young. I currently own and have owned numerous makes and models ranging from a 1956 Dodge Stepside, an Alfa Romeo Milano Verde, and a Toyota Camry. I have always been their primary mechanic from minor tune-ups to engine overhauls. During my MBA at the Presidio School of Management I focused on reconciling my love for cars with my concern for the environment in a business plan for a retrofit and restoration business called AutoEvolution—The GreenGarage.
My current work in the energy and economic development sectors gives me keen insights on emerging technologies, government and people’s mindsets as they relate to green technologies. I was recently appointed to the San Francisco Mayor’s Clean Technology Advisory Council and my ‘day-job’ is in the world of residential and commercial energy efficiency and conservation.
An area of interest for me is the parallels between the energy and automotive sectors or between stationary and mobile powerplants (cars). Both are facing similar crises i.e. greenhouse gas emissions and diminishing fuel sources; both have issues with peak demand; and both are struggling with end user conservation and efficiency choices. The solutions and processes that emerge will define consumer perceptions and consumption patterns—all of which translate into business and environmental opportunities.
